Thank you to everyone who supported Crossroads in December by putting their green tokens in our box at the Brighton branch of Waitrose. Just under 40% of tokens went in our box meaning Waitrose donated £398 to us!
We’d like to thank everyone that supported us and to those who requested we be one of the chosen charities. A thank you also of course to Waitrose for making the donation!
The money will go to help carers across the community and it really does make a difference.
Waitrose runs the Community Matters scheme every month donating to three local charities.

From November 27th to the end of December the Brighton branch of Waitrose on Western Road will be supporting East Sussex, Brighton and Hove Crossroads.

Each Waitrose store supports three nominated local charities per month and £1000 is split between the three charities. For the month of December East Sussex, Brighton and Hove Crossroads will be one of them.
After a transaction each customer is given a token and they can choose which charity they would like to support by placing their token in the box for the relevant cause.

Please support carers in the community by putting your token in our box! The more tokens we get the greater portion of the money we get!

The money donated will go directly to funding night visits. This is an essential service to our clients and means that a carer can have a good nights sleep knowing their loved one is safely cared for by our support worker. It also gives carers the opportunity to go out in the evening and have a meal or go to the theatre without having to worry about their loved one. Most of our clients care for a friend or relative for over 50 hours a week so having a break is crucial.

Crossroads Care East Sussex Brighton & Hove have been awarded a large donation of £20k from the comedian Jack Whitehall, and his father Michael Whitehall, after their win on The Million Pound Drop Live on Thursday evening.

The Million Pound Drop Live, hosted by Davina McCall, invites celebrity contestants to enter for the chance to win up to £1 million for the charities of their choice. At the beginning of the show contestants are given £1 million, but have to gamble the money each time they are asked one of eight nail-biting questions. Contestants can place all their money on one answer or spread the risk, but if their money is on the wrong answer, it will be lost forever. One wrong move could literally see thousands of pounds drop through the floor.

Already this series Vernon Kay and his best friend Luke lost out on all the prize money by Question 6.

Jack and Michael were thankfully much more successful, and won a total of £300k on Thursday’s show, of which they decided to donate £20k to Crossroads Care East Sussex Brighton & Hove.

We would like to give a big thank you to Jack and Michael for choosing to support carers in East Sussex Brighton & Hove, through Crossroads from all at Crossroads Care.

Jacky Ensom has been working for Crossroads since August 2001.

Having worked in the community for many years Jacky became a Senior Worker at the William Daly Centre in Polegate five years ago.

Jacky is a very popular member of staff and frequently goes out of her way to help carers and cared for people, dedicating a great deal of her free time to a variety of tasks, far above the normal call of duty.

As a result of Jacky’s work in the community, and as a Crossroads Carer Support Worker, Annie Leatherdale nominated Jacky for a Pride of Britain 2011 Award.

Every year, Prince Charles and the Prime Minister join stars in honouring the UK’s unsung heroes at the prestigious Pride of Britain Awards, the biggest national event of its kind.

Jacky has reached the semi-finals, which will be shown on ITV/Meridian television from Monday 5th September.
